Some cultural differences in Australia

Label: ,

Some cultural differences.

In Australia you would not ask someone:
- their age, unless they were a child.
- how much money they earned
- how much something cost unless they were a very close friend
- about their religion or discuss religion if you didn't know them
- about their political beliefs

What are some questions we should never ask an Indonesian in your area? Share.....

Cultural Difference in Australia, say "Thank You!"

Label:

A cultural difference that I notice every time I do a workshop is the Australian habit of saying thanks or thank you every time I collect evaluation forms or other materials from the participants.

It gets very tiring to say thanks to all 60 or so people every time I collect something. Indonesian teachers do not appear to do this.

I didn't remember doing this in Australia but on thinking back to teaching in Australia, I realised that the reason I didn't do this was that I always got the kids to pass everything to the front of the row, so I only had to say thanks 4 times.

Have a great week. And if you want to be really Australia don't forget to use thanks every time you receive something. Australians tend to think people rude who do not say thanks.
