Some cultural differences in Australia

Label: ,

Some cultural differences.

In Australia you would not ask someone:
- their age, unless they were a child.
- how much money they earned
- how much something cost unless they were a very close friend
- about their religion or discuss religion if you didn't know them
- about their political beliefs

What are some questions we should never ask an Indonesian in your area? Share.....

Cultural Difference in Australia, say "Thank You!"

Label:

A cultural difference that I notice every time I do a workshop is the Australian habit of saying thanks or thank you every time I collect evaluation forms or other materials from the participants.

It gets very tiring to say thanks to all 60 or so people every time I collect something. Indonesian teachers do not appear to do this.

I didn't remember doing this in Australia but on thinking back to teaching in Australia, I realised that the reason I didn't do this was that I always got the kids to pass everything to the front of the row, so I only had to say thanks 4 times.

Have a great week. And if you want to be really Australia don't forget to use thanks every time you receive something. Australians tend to think people rude who do not say thanks.

Date (Tanggal)

Label:

Basic Level 1

Date (Tanggal)

1.      British Style
Hari biasanya dituliskan sebelum bulan. Preposisi of sebelum bulan biasanya dihilangkan.
Contoh: 5(th) (of) October(,) 2004

Rumus :
a.       Ordinal number + month + year
Contoh : 25 Desember 2005 → 25th December 2005
b.      Day + , + ordinal number + of + month + year
Contoh : Senin, 27 Januari 1992 → Monday, 27th of January 1992
   Minggu, 17 Oktober 2010 → Sunday, 17th of October 2010

2.      American Style

Rumus :
a.       Month + Ordinal number + year
Contoh : 17 Agustus 2010 → August 17th 2010
b.      Day + , + month + ordinal number + year
Contoh : Senin 1 Mei 1990 → Monday, 1st 1990

Tanggal dalam bahasa Inggris lisan
Jika kita menempatkan hari sebelum bulan, gunakan the sebelum hari dan preposisi of sebelum bulan.
5 October 2004 = The fifth of October, Two thousand and four

Jika kita menempatkan bulan sebelum hari, gunakan the sebelum hari (bahasa inggris British) atau the bisa dihilangkan (bahasa inggris Amerika).
October 5, 2004 = October (the) fifth, two thousand and four

Cara mengucapkan tahun
Mulai tahun 2000 ke atas, tahun dieja seperti bilangan biasa.
2000 = two thousand
2003 = two thousand and three
1999 = nineteen ninety nine
1998 = nineteen ninty eight
1806 = eighteen hundred and six/eighteen oh six
Jika kita ingin menggunakan tahun tanpa tanggal pasti, gunakan preposisi in:
I was born in 1972
I was born on October, 5, 1985

Kesimpulan:

Format
British: Day-Month-Year
American: Month-Day-Year
A
the Fourteenth of March, 2011
March the Fourteenth, 2011
B
14th March 2011

C
